Cartagena – Playa Blanca Shuttle

Colombia – Cartagena To Playa Blanca, Shuttle Bus

The Mamallena Playa Blanca shuttle departs daily at 9am and 1pm from Hostel Mamallena in Calle Media Luna Getsemani, a short walk from the city centre. Departures From Playa Blanca, Isla Baru are at 11am and 3pm.  Playa Blanca is the best beach with in the Islas Rosarios, the chain of islands close to Cartagena.  If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Cartagena then this is where you are going to go.  If you’ve heard Playa Blanca is over run with tourists then don’t believe.  Of course there are tourists!  But walk 5 minutes along this amazing beach and you’ll find plenty of space.  The beach at Playa Blanca is long and all the tourists seem to stay in the one spot.

The Mamallena Playa Blanca shuttle bus is by far the best way to get to Playa Blanca.  It leaves from out the front of Hostel Mamallena on calle Media Luna in Getsemani and drops you back there when you return.  Travel time is 45 minutes and the shuttle doesnt do stops.  it goes straight to the beach at Playa Blanca and straight back again.  We also try and avoid delays, so when we say the shuttle is leaving Playa Blanca at 3pm then the shuttle is leaving Playa Blanca at 3pm.  If you’re doing a day trip to Playa Blanca then you’ll arrive at around 10am and leave at 3pm, arriving at Mamallena at 4pm.  This is plenty of time for a great day trip.  If you’d like to spend the night then you’ll find plenty of accommodation at Playa Blanca.  Our price is for return transport and you can come back any day you like.  You can either do a day trip to Playa Blanca, or one or two or three nights, as many as you want.

You’ve probably heard about the boat tours to Islas Rosarios.  If you’re picturing a nice boat ride from island to island and beach to beach then you’d be mistaken.  The Playa Blanca and Islas Rosario island boat tours have basically two stops and are as touristy as they can get. You need to walk to the docks where the boats leave from, pay the taxes and then wait for departure.  They’ll then go to the aquarium in the Islas Rosarios for one hour.  If you’d like to visit the aquarium then it costs extra, if you don’t want to then you can sit around on the small beach waiting for the boat to leave.  Then its off to Playa Blanca for 2 hours.  After that its back to Cartagena.  The sea in the morning can be great and smooth, the sea in the afternoon, back from Playa Blanca to Cartagena, is a real roller coaster!  Expect to get wet and expect to be sore.  Our best advice is, no matter what you do, DON’T TAKE THE CHEAPER SLOW BOAT.  It takes around 9 hours, of which you will spend 3 hours OFF the boat.

In our opinion the Mamallena Playa Blanca shuttle bus the fastest, best valued, most comfortable option to get travel from Cartagena to Playa Blanca and back.  AC all the way!!
